Prepare the Infrastructure – Part 2

Alright, we will just how to make a computer or your laptop becomes a web server. As has been previously described, there are many applications that can be used. However, in this book I will use a program which is named XAMPP. Because in this XAMPP application already available Apache which acts as a Web Server, as well MySQL is available to perform database management. Enough is the theory, to install XAMPP, follow the following steps :

  1. Download XAMPP via the Apache Friends website DOWNLOAD

Perform the installation after you finish downloading. During the installation process you may see a message asking if you are sure you want to install it. Please press Yes to continue with the installation.

On the next screen, a selection will appear regarding which components of XAMPP you want and don’t want to install. Some options such as Apache and PHP are essential parts of running a website and will be installed automatically. Please check MySQL and phpMyAdmin, leave it for other options.

Next, please select the destination folder where you want XAMPP to be installed, in this tutorial it is in the C:\xampp directory

On the next page, there will be an option whether you want to install Bitnami for XAMPP, which you can use later to install WordPress, Drupal, and Joomla automatically.

At this step the XAMPP installation process will begin. Please click the Next button.

After successfully installed, a notification will appear to immediately run the control panel. Please click Finish.

Please open the XAMPP application then click the Start button on Apache and MySQL. If successfully run, Apache and MySQL will be green as shown below.

What we are doing above is changing the computer or our laptop seems to be a server. To prove it, open a browser, in this case I use Mozilla Firefox. In the Address bar type http://localhost.
Then the contents will appear as follows.
